JI Blames IPP Agreements for Energy Crisis in Pakistan
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan has criticized the federal government’s agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), holding them responsible for the energy crisis in the country. JI Naib Ameer Liaquat Baloch expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to address inflation, unemployment, and other pressing issues.
Describing Pakistan’s economy as stagnant, Baloch condemned the recent budget as a “document of national destruction.” He highlighted the increase in electricity bills, which has left the common man feeling uncertain about the future.
The JI announced a protest sit-in in Islamabad to protest against over-billing, power load-shedding, inflation, and joblessness. Ameer Jamaat Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticized K-Electric for not reducing electricity load-shedding despite 1,000 heatwave-related deaths in Karachi.
Hafiz Naeem also pointed out the inefficiencies in the privatization of the power utility, noting its high line losses and expensive electricity rates. The JI plans to address these issues through the upcoming sit-in on July 12 in Islamabad.
