A shocking incident of cruelty has been uncovered in rural Australia, where at least 65 kangaroos were illegally killed in a brutal manner. The eastern grey kangaroos were found shot or rammed by a vehicle in paddocks north of Melbourne, prompting an investigation by authorities.
Disturbingly, some kangaroos were found alive but had to be euthanised due to the severity of their injuries. Two joeys were rescued and are now receiving care at a wildlife shelter. The marsupials had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
While kangaroos are protected in Australia, culling is allowed with government permission to manage their population, which can fluctuate drastically due to environmental factors. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of respecting wildlife and adhering to regulations aimed at safeguarding Australia’s iconic animals.
Let us hope that those responsible for this senseless act of violence are swiftly brought to justice, and that measures are put in place to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring in the future.
