Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, dismissed claims that Iran is aiding Russia in its war against Ukraine. He made this statement during a briefing reported by Georgia Online.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze attended the funeral of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and the inauguration of new President Massoud Pezeshkian, sparking questions about Georgia’s relationship with Iran.
Papuashvili emphasized the historical and diplomatic ties between Georgia and Iran based on mutual respect and cultural connections. He denied allegations of Iran supplying drones to Russia for the war in Ukraine.
Despite reports of Iran providing kamikaze drones to Russia for attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, Papuashvili reiterated Georgia’s stance of maintaining diplomatic relations with Iran.
