Torrential rains in Lahore shattered a 44-year-old record on Thursday, with the Airport area receiving a whopping 337 millimetres of rainfall in just one day. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed the historic rainfall, warning of potential flooding in the coming days.
As the sixth spell of monsoon rains hits Punjab, districts in south Punjab are bracing for strong winds and thundershowers. The recent heavy rains have already claimed the lives of a child and five women, with many others injured in various incidents.
Authorities are working tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the deluge. Senior Punjab minister Marriyum Aurangzeb oversaw drainage operations in Lahore, ensuring the availability of water pumps and necessary machinery. Hospitals have been stocked with medicines and vaccines, and continuous monitoring is in place.
The PDMA has advised caution, urging citizens to stay safe during this critical period. With water levels rising and more rain expected, it’s crucial to take necessary precautions and prioritize safety above all else.\
