Sardar Akhtar Mengal, leader of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), has resigned from the National Assembly, citing the marginalized status of Balochistan and lack of genuine representation in the government. Elected as an MNA from Khuzdar (NA-256) earlier this year, Mengal’s decision comes amidst heightened security tensions and ongoing protests against enforced disappearances in the region.
In a letter addressed to NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Mengal expressed the need for meaningful change and the protection and prosperity of Balochistan. Despite the disappointment of voters, Mengal believes that politics in its current state has become a business, devoid of true justice. He also linked his resignation to a tribute to his late father and founder of BNP, Sardar Attaullah Mengal.
Mengal’s resignation signifies a turning point in his political career and reflects his commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of the people he represents. It remains to be seen what impact his decision will have on the political landscape of Balochistan and Pakistan as a whole.
