The Ukrainian Defense Ministry recently greenlit the use of the domestically-made Khorunzhyi armored personnel carrier, a modernized version of the Soviet BTR-60. With a more powerful engine, the Khorunzhyi can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h, making it a versatile vehicle for military operations.
Constructed with Finnish steel, the Khorunzhyi boasts enhanced ballistic protection, with its frontal armor capable of withstanding shots from large-caliber machine guns. This armored personnel carrier features modern upgrades such as video surveillance cameras, an air conditioning system, and an autonomous generator for continued operation without the engine running. It is also equipped with a combat module housing either a 14.5 mm machine gun or a 30×113 mm cannon.
Offered in six variations, the Khorunzhyi can serve multiple purposes including troop transport, battlefield evacuation, repair, command functions, and even as a self-propelled mortar vehicle. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has approved over 110 military vehicle models for use, with one-third produced domestically and the rest sourced from more than 20 countries worldwide.
