Air India Embarks on Rs 1,400 Crore MRO Facility in Bengaluru

Air India has kickstarted the construction of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru with an initial investment of Rs 1,400 crore. This project is expected to generate approximately 1,200 direct jobs, contributing significantly to the local economy.

Campbell Wilson, CEO, and MD of Air India, highlighted the substantial impact of job creation at the airport, mentioning a multiplier effect of seven times. The airline is also in the process of acquiring 500 aircraft, emphasizing the need for modernization of the fleet inherited from the union government.

The planned MRO facility in Bengaluru will feature 12 hangar bays to accommodate both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, enhancing Air India’s self-reliance in fleet maintenance by 2025. Additionally, a recent agreement with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and the Karnataka government solidifies the airline’s commitment to invest Rs 2,300 crore in aerospace and defense sectors in the state.

Overall, Air India’s strategic initiatives underscore its vision for growth, modernization, and sustainability in the aviation industry.
