Recently, British intelligence has noted a significant increase in Russian combat losses in August, attributing it to Ukraine’s operation in the Kursk region. The UK Ministry of Defense shared this information on X, indicating that the average daily Russian casualties in Ukraine spiked to 1,187 in August 2024, with an estimated total of over 610,000 casualties since the start of the conflict.
The report highlights Ukraine’s successful Kursk operation and the ongoing pressure on the Pokrovsk axis as key factors in the rise of Russian casualties. British intelligence forecasts that despite Russia’s continued pressure on the entire frontline, their limited capabilities will hinder their ability to turn tactical gains into operational success.
The offensive operation by Ukraine’s Defense Forces in Russia’s Kursk commenced on August 6, leading to the capture of 100 settlements and over 600 Russian soldiers by the end of August. As Russia’s casualty rate remains high, averaging above 1,000 per day in September, the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve on multiple fronts.
