The meeting, held at an old army fort outside Melbourne, highlighted the need for heightened security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Concerns over China’s growing influence and assertiveness in territorial disputes have prompted the collaboration between Japan and Australia.
The discussions included plans to enhance air force cooperation, potentially deploying Japan’s elite Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade to Australia, and exploring the deployment of F-35 stealth fighters to Australian airfields. Additionally, both countries will join military exercises alongside the United States.
As part of the Quad alliance, Japan and Australia play crucial roles in maintaining regional security and serving as gateways to potential conflict zones. Both nations have recently increased defense spending and are focused on modernizing their military capabilities.
