In a recent parliamentary session, EFF leader Julius Malema defended Maotwe by referring to McKenzie as a “jailbird.” Malema stood his ground, stating that there was nothing wrong with calling McKenzie a jailbird because he himself had admitted to being one.
Malema’s refusal to withdraw his statement led to his removal from the platform, but other EFF members continued to chant “lepantiti” to McKenzie. Marshall Dlamini argued that the members were unfairly treated and should be allowed to exercise their rights.
When given a chance to respond to the jailbird remarks, McKenzie boldly stated that while he didn’t mind being called a “pantiti,” the voters chose him over the EFF candidate in the Western Cape, emphasizing his popularity.
The heated exchange in parliament highlighted the tension between the EFF and McKenzie, with Malema’s unwavering stance showcasing the party’s fearless approach to political discourse.
