A recent survey by Pew Research shows that only 32% of US adults currently support a potential ban on TikTok, compared to 38% last fall and 50% in March 2023. The survey also revealed that half of Americans now find it unlikely that TikTok will be banned at all.
This shift in public opinion comes as the US government faces a deadline next year to either force a sale of TikTok or ban the app from US users. Concerns over privacy and security issues related to TikTok’s Chinese ownership have been raised by US lawmakers in recent years.
The survey reflects changing attitudes towards TikTok among Americans, especially since President Joe Biden signed a law requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to divest its ownership in the app. Despite initial concerns, many Americans now doubt the possibility of a TikTok ban.
