Former President Donald Trump has announced plans to create a government efficiency commission to audit the entire federal government, with billionaire Elon Musk leading it. The alliance between Trump and Musk has garnered attention, with Musk supporting Trump’s presidential bid.
Trump stated that fraud and improper payments in 2022 cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, and the commission would recommend reforms to eradicate these issues and save trillions of dollars. Additionally, Trump pledged to cut 10 government regulations for every new regulation introduced if elected in November.
During a speech to the Economic Club of New York, Trump also revealed plans to slash regulations, boost energy production, support cryptocurrencies, and reduce government spending. Musk expressed willingness to serve America without pay or recognition.
The collaboration between Trump and Musk, once rivals, has evolved into a partnership. Musk, previously a “moderate Democrat,” endorsed Trump after an attempt on his life, highlighting their shift towards mutual support.
Efforts to reform government, such as the National Partnership for Reinventing Government initiated during Bill Clinton’s presidency, have aimed to streamline bureaucracy and enhance government efficiency over the years.
