The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, aiming to deliver aid to Gaza and raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis there, has been blocked by Turkish authorities, with 5,000 tonnes of aid stuck in the port for over 45 days. Despite passing all necessary checks, the group is unable to sail to Gaza, where the enclave is on the verge of famine.
Steering Committee member Beheşti İsmail emphasized the urgency of breaking the blockade to stop the genocide in Gaza, calling on global political establishments to support their efforts. Turkey’s President Erdogan, a vocal supporter of Palestine, has also threatened action against Israel if the offensive on Palestinians continues.
This is not the first time the coalition has faced obstacles in delivering aid to Gaza, with previous attempts blocked by Israeli tactics. The blockade on Gaza, in place since 2007, has intensified, leading to concerns of famine due to a lack of essential supplies.
