The Uruguayan Government under President Luis Lacalle Pou has found a supportive partner in Argentina regarding flexibility within the Southern Common Market, Mercosur. Foreign Minister Omar Paganini expressed gratitude for Buenos Aires’ endorsement to allow individual member countries to seek trade alliances independently. Paganini emphasized the importance of Mercosur becoming more open and generating greater trade agreements worldwide.
Argentina has stood behind Uruguay’s vision of flexibility within Mercosur, advocating for bilateral or multilateral negotiations. Paganini highlighted the desire for the European Union-Mercosur Free Trade Agreement to progress smoothly. It is essential for all Mercosur members to adopt a flexible approach to trade negotiations to benefit all involved.
