The US Navy rescued two Iranian mariners in distress last Friday in international waters, US Central Command said in a news release.
Sailors from the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group rescued the Iranian civilians from the water in the Gulf of Oman. The cause of distress was undisclosed.
The mariners were picked up by a US destroyer boat and a rescue helicopter, then brought to the carrier for medical attention and supplies.
The commander of the strike group, Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander, emphasized the importance of aiding distressed mariners, showcasing the readiness of the US Navy.
