Israel is currently conducting its largest assault on the West Bank since the Second Intifada, with Defence Minister Yoav Gallant referring to it as “mowing the lawn.” The operation, focused on Jenin, Tulkarem, and Far’a camp, has resulted in the deaths of 35 Palestinians, including a 16-year-old girl shot by Israeli forces in her home.
Local media reports dozens of families forced to flee their homes in fear of intensified violence, while streets and shops have been destroyed by Israeli bulldozers. The raids seek to dismantle Palestinian armed factions in the northern West Bank, aiming to prevent terror activities.
The “mowing the lawn” strategy mirrors previous military operations in Gaza, seeking to diminish resistance fighters’ capabilities. Israeli politicians warn of a potential larger military operation in the West Bank, further threatening the safety of Palestinian residents. This offensive comes amidst growing danger from Israeli settler attacks and government-led land grabs, raising concerns for the region’s stability.
The destruction caused by the Israeli raids is feared to be the worst in over two decades, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
