Recently, in an unexpected turn of events, hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Calabar Municipal have switched their allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC). State Secretary of the APC, Chief Patrick Asikpo Okon, welcomed the defectors and praised Governor Bassey Otu’s leadership style for attracting opposition members to join the ruling party.
Okon emphasized that the defectors chose to support the governor’s People’s First Agenda by joining the APC. He assured them of fair treatment and equal opportunities within the party. Okon urged the defectors to be patient and loyal to the party to fully benefit from being APC members.
Dr. Francis Effiom, a leader of the defectors from Ward 8, highlighted Governor Otu’s impressive performance in improving infrastructure in the state as the main reason for their switch to the APC. Another APC chieftain, Iso Bassey Edim, congratulated the defectors and guaranteed them opportunities to grow and benefit from their decision.
The mass defection showcases the changing political landscape in Calabar Municipal and underscores the growing support for Governor Otu’s administration.
