The Geghard Scientific-Analytical Foundation has raised awareness about Azerbaijani propaganda in Egyptian media, spreading misinformation about the Armenian heritage in the occupied territories of Artsakh. A recent article in an Egyptian media outlet described Shushi, an Armenian city, as part of Azerbaijan, erasing its rich Armenian history.
The article distorts the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and ignores the atrocities committed against Armenians. It conveniently ignores the Armenian population of Shushi, which was a Christian cultural center. Despite the destruction of Armenian churches and historical sites by Azerbaijani forces, the Armenian people have preserved and even restored Muslim heritage in the region.
The Foundation urges journalists and researchers to avoid promoting biased and false information fed by the Aliyev regime. It’s crucial to resist efforts to erase the Armenian identity of cities like Shushi through propaganda and misinformation. The preservation of cultural heritage and accurate representation of history are essential in combating such misleading narratives.
