Federal Ministry of Environment Deploys Experts to Mitigate Flooding in Borno State
The Federal Ministry of Environment has taken swift action in response to the devastating flooding that occurred in Borno state. A team of experts has been deployed to help mitigate the effects of the flood, which affected over two million people and claimed the lives of more than 30 individuals.
The government stated that the experts will conduct continuous water sampling and testing to identify sources of hazardous chemicals and prevent waterborne diseases. The flooding was primarily caused by the overflow of water from the Alau Dam, resulting from a massive inflow from the Ngadda River.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, led key officials on a condolence visit to the state and emphasized the importance of a coordinated response to address the environmental challenges posed by the flood. The ministry has deployed a team of experts from various departments to assist with mitigation efforts.
In addition to providing disinfectants and educating the public on sanitation and hygiene practices, the ministry will work closely with the Borno State Government to develop strategies for future flood mitigation and early warning systems.
The minister commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his leadership in responding to the crisis and expressed confidence in the state’s ability to recover and build resilience against future challenges.
