In the fight against domestic violence, police officers, prosecutors, and judges play crucial roles. A joint session of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) parliamentary committees is currently discussing institutional responses to domestic and gender-based violence, focusing on the law enforcement and justice sectors.
Supported by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, this session involves collaboration between four parliamentary committees to improve responses to violence. Aida Obuća, Chair of the Committee for Gender Equality, emphasized the importance of seeking new solutions to enhance the judicial response to violence against women and domestic violence.
Ambassador Brian Aggeler highlighted the critical role played by the police and justice sectors in combatting domestic violence. The session aims to exchange experiences and expedite the process of amending relevant laws to strengthen protection for vulnerable groups.
The FBiH Parliament’s efforts align with international obligations, with discussions focusing on amending laws to align with the Istanbul Convention. This thematic session is part of the broader initiative to combat domestic and gender-based violence led by the OSCE Mission to BiH.
