Lula Urges Ukraine to Pursue Peaceful Solution in Conflict with Russia
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has reiterated the importance of Ukraine seeking a peaceful resolution in its conflict with Russia. Lula’s comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected a joint peace proposal from Brazil and China, labeling it as “destructive.”
Speaking at a diplomatic academy, Lula emphasized Brazil’s commitment to peace and neutrality in foreign affairs. He urged for dialogue before conflict arises, stating that “war only brings harm.” The joint proposal presented earlier by Brazil and China called for a ceasefire and resumption of bilateral dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv.
While Zelensky criticized Lula’s stance as pro-Russian, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed reluctance towards negotiations following Ukraine’s actions in the Kursk Region. Despite the tensions, Zelensky invited Lula to visit Ukraine with hopes of involving major BRICS members in peace talks.
Efforts for peace continue amidst strained relations, with previous peace talks in 2022 facing challenges. Lula’s diplomatic efforts highlight the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving conflicts.
