Are you tired of the current electoral system in South Africa? Build One SA (BOSA) has launched two petitions to advocate for direct elections, allowing the public to choose the next leader of the party they voted for, including MPs. Party spokesperson Roger Solomons believes this change is necessary to strengthen democracy and give people a real say in governance.
BOSA is pushing for electoral reform to establish a constituency-based system where citizens can directly elect their leaders instead of having them chosen by political parties. This change aims to ensure that leaders are directly accountable to the people, attract expertise, and enhance governance to help South Africa thrive and prosper.
The Electoral Reform Consultation Panel has requested written submissions from BOSA on why the current electoral system should be changed by September 30. BOSA plans to argue for a constituency-based system for MPs and the direct election of the president in a presidential election.
