Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s office has announced that he will be taking a week off to recover after a recent health scare. Mashatile experienced a medical incident over the weekend in Tzaneen, Limpopo, where he collapsed during a speech at N’wamitwa Day celebrations.
Although Mashatile is now out of danger and in good spirits, he has been advised by doctors to rest and recuperate. As a result, he has withdrawn from his official duties for the week, including a scheduled appearance at the National Council of Provinces.
His spokesperson, Keith Khoza, stated that Mashatile takes parliamentary oversight seriously and is committed to improving municipal governance, service delivery, land reform, agricultural output, food security, and combating crime. He looks forward to rescheduling the question-and-answer session with the NCOP chair as soon as possible.
This hiatus will also allow NCOP members and former colleagues of the late minister Pravin Gordhan the opportunity to pay their respects. Mashatile’s dedication to his role and accountability to parliament is commendable.
