Dr. Ziad al-Dalou, a Palestinian internal medicine physician, is the third doctor to die in Israeli jails due to widespread torture that has killed at least 60 Palestinian detainees.
Dr. Ziad al-Dalou has tragically passed away while in detention after being taken by Israeli forces from al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City during a siege earlier this year. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed his death, expressing outrage over the loss of another skilled healthcare worker in Israeli custody. Al-Dalou’s death marks the third instance of a doctor dying in Israeli jails, adding to the grim toll of 60 Palestinian detainees who have lost their lives due to torture.
The Ministry condemned the “heinous crime against Palestinian healthcare workers” and called on international organizations to investigate the fate of other medical staff abducted by Israeli forces. Dr. al-Dalou’s death follows the similar tragic fates of Dr. Iyad Rantisi and Dr. Adnan al-Barsh, who were also killed while in Israeli detention.
The ongoing war in Gaza has taken a devastating toll on Palestinian health workers, with over 1,100 reported deaths among healthcare professionals since October 7. The systematic targeting of medical personnel and facilities by Israeli forces has left the health system in shambles and has led to a dire humanitarian crisis in the region.
