US Government Sues Singapore-Based Company Over Bridge Collision that Killed Six
The United States Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the Singapore-based owner and operator of a cargo tanker involved in a tragic collision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The March incident resulted in the deaths of six workers and the temporary shutdown of a crucial US port.
The lawsuit seeks $100 million from Grace Ocean Private and Synergy Marine Private, holding them accountable for the damages caused by the collision. US Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized that the companies should bear the responsibility for the costs incurred from the accident, not the American taxpayer.
The legal action highlighted the negligence of the companies, accusing them of failing to address known issues on the vessel that ultimately led to the crash. Families of the victims have also announced plans to pursue legal action against the owner and operator, seeking justice for their loved ones.
As investigations and lawsuits continue, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and safety measures in the maritime industry.
