Disgraced former movie producer Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty to a new sex crime charge in New York. Despite recent emergency heart surgery, Weinstein appeared in court in a wheelchair looking frail and unshaven.
Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, announced that Weinstein was indicted for a sexual assault that occurred in a Manhattan hotel in 2006. This follows his previous convictions for rape and sexual assault.
While serving a 16-year sentence in California, Weinstein awaits a retrial in New York after his previous conviction was overturned. Weinstein’s health issues have been a concern, leading to the emergency heart surgery.
The allegations against Weinstein were pivotal in sparking the #MeToo movement, with over 80 women accusing him of various forms of misconduct. Weinstein maintains that any sexual encounters were consensual.
