President Asif Ali Zardari voices firm opposition to legislative assembly elections in India-occupied Kashmir (IoK), emphasizing that elections are not a replacement for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. In a meeting with migrants from IoK, Zardari condemned the elections as part of India’s strategy to strengthen its illegal occupation of the region. The President expressed concern over India’s attempts to alter the demographic structure of IoK and suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmiris.
The delegation informed Zardari about the atrocities in IoK and the imprisonment of Kashmiri leadership to silence dissent. President Zardari pledged to advocate for the Kashmiri people’s rights and provide support through the Benazir Income Support Programme.
The President assured the migrants that Pakistan will continue its unwavering support for Kashmiris and work towards their socio-economic uplift. Zardari also promised to enhance relief measures for Kashmiri refugees and extend the social safety net to include more migrant families.
Through his strong stance against the elections in IoK and commitment to the Kashmiri cause, Zardari reaffirms Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
