The Border Police Unit of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Gradiška recently apprehended a Turkish citizen attempting to smuggle 23 people of Afro-Asian origin. This incident occurred during a routine surveillance of the state border when a Mercedes vehicle with Bosnian national marks was stopped in the border zone. The individuals being smuggled did not have proper identification documents, claiming to be from Syria and Egypt.
The on-duty prosecutor was notified about the incident, leading to the temporary confiscation of evidence and the impending handover of the Turkish citizen to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH on charges of human smuggling. In a separate incident on September 20, the same unit prevented the smuggling of ten Syrian citizens with the assistance of a Bosnian driver also in Gradiška.
The Service for Affairs with Foreigners of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been informed about both cases for further action and investigation.
