In the past five years, the Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton has seen a significant number of indictments related to sexual offenses, including rape, sexual intercourse with a child, fornication, and gratifying lust in front of a child or minor. According to spokeswoman Azra Bavčić, there were 16 indictments for rape, with two involving minors, four for sexual intercourse with a child, and 33 for fornication, with 25 of them harming minors.
The recent case involving actor Moamer Kasumović, who was sentenced to one year in prison for lewd acts against a minor, has brought attention to the issue of sexual offenses in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bavčić emphasized that the Prosecutor’s Office does not disclose detailed information about such crimes, especially those involving children or minors, in order to protect their privacy and rights during criminal proceedings.
Under the Law on the Protection and Treatment of Children and Minors in Criminal Proceedings of the FBiH, proceedings involving harmed children or minors are kept confidential. This legislation aims to ensure the safety and well-being of young victims of crime.
