Decline in Travel Activity at Beirut Airport Amid Israeli Airstrikes
A significant decrease in travel activity has been observed at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport due to a series of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. According to Jean Abboud, head of Lebanon’s Association of Travel and Tourist Agents, fourteen airlines have suspended flights to Lebanon, causing a 30% to 40% drop in passenger traffic at the airport.
Major airlines such as Swiss International Air Lines, Kuwait Airways, Transavia, Air France, Lufthansa, and Saudi Airlines have temporarily halted their flights to Lebanon. To accommodate the gaps left by these suspensions, Lebanon’s flag carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) is operating extra flights.
The escalating tension between Hezbollah and Israel has led to a deadly airstrike that claimed the lives of many civilians, including key Hezbollah members. The recent wave of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon has resulted in numerous casualties and widespread destruction.
Despite the ongoing hostilities, Lebanon remains resilient as it navigates through this challenging period of unrest and uncertainty.
