The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board, responsible for the National Children’s Hospital, will address concerns at the Oireachtas Committee on Health. Spokesperson Róisín Shortall criticized the lack of transparency in the project, which has faced delays and cost overruns, now totaling over €2.2 billion.
Shortall highlighted ongoing issues with the construction and expressed frustration with the lack of definitive cost information. Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, accused BAM construction company of overcharging and under-resourcing the project, causing delays.
BAM denied the allegations, heightening tensions surrounding the project. Shortall criticized the failure of three successive health ministers to effectively manage costs.
The Committee seeks updates on the project’s progress and addresses concerns about construction flaws. The hearing aims to shed light on the controversy surrounding the hospital construction and to hold responsible parties accountable for the delays and rising costs.
