Indonesia Approves Creation of Cyber Force
Indonesia has approved the establishment of a Cyber Force, making it the fourth branch of the Indonesian Military (TNI) alongside the army, navy, and air force. Outgoing President Jokowi Widodo and President-elect Prabowo Subianto have given the green light for this new development.
The Cyber Force will conduct patrols and mitigation efforts, operating similarly to the other military branches. Chief Security Minister Hadi Tjahjanto emphasized the importance of cyber warfare expertise in countering future threats.
Reflecting on past experiences with cyber warfare, particularly during the conflict with Timor Leste, Indonesia acknowledges the need to strengthen its capabilities. The Cyber Force is seen as a battle of minds, aiming to influence perceptions and achieve strategic goals.
Despite being ranked fifth in Southeast Asia for cyber security, Indonesia is gearing up to embrace the shift towards remote military operations controlled via the internet. The Cyber Force marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s defense strategy.
