The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, took to Twitter to criticize the recent Edo State governorship election as a “state capture” rather than a democratic process. He highlighted how the flawed leadership recruitment process demonstrated in the Edo polls could have serious consequences for the country.
Obi urged those in power to address the irregularities in the electoral process and not rely on them for continued governance. He emphasized the need to utilize electoral technology tools like IReV and BVAS to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
He also called out individuals and institutions complicit in undermining democracy, warning them of the repercussions their actions may have in the future. Obi stressed the importance of working towards a truly democratic Nigeria that works for all its citizens, regardless of their background.
His message was clear: it is time to prioritize saving the country over capturing power for personal gain. Obi remains committed to building a new Nigeria where democracy thrives, believing it is very possible.
