In a daring operation, Ukrainian forces managed to recapture an aggregate plant in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, from Russian troops. The HUR officer, Viking, revealed that 24 Russian soldiers were captured, and “several dozen” were killed during the intense week-long battle.
Despite heavy resistance and shelling, the Ukrainian forces successfully completed their mission, reclaiming the plant that had been under Russian control for months. The HUR special forces engaged in hand-to-hand combat and systematically cleared all 30 buildings of Russian forces.
Vovchansk, a town in northeastern Kharkiv, has been a battleground since Russia’s offensive began in May. While initially making gains, Russian troops faced heavy losses, causing the offensive to bog down. The town’s fall could have significant implications for the war in Ukraine. The intense fighting in the area has diminished compared to other sectors in eastern Ukraine.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claims made by HUR. The successful operation was praised by HUR Chief Kyrylo Budanov, highlighting the agency’s special forces’ bravery and skill in reclaiming the plant. Overall, it was a significant victory for Ukrainian forces in the ongoing conflict.
