New Gas Discovery in Sindh Boosts Pakistan’s Energy Sector
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported a significant gas discovery in Sindh’s Khairpur district. The discovery was made at the Sawan South Block with the successful drilling of the Akhiro-1 exploratory well.
Jointly operated by OGDCL, United Energy Pakistan Limited, Government Holding Private Limited, and Sindh Energy Holding Limited, the Akhiro-1 well reached a total depth of 12,442 feet. Initial testing revealed a gas production rate of approximately 10 MMSCFD with a wellhead flowing pressure of 4,000 pounds per square inch.
This new find is poised to strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector by providing indigenous gas resources to meet the country’s increasing demand. The discovery marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance energy security and reduce reliance on imports.
