The Oyo State Government is taking proactive measures to prevent flood disasters in Ibadan by clearing over 153.11 kilometers of blocked drainages and culverts along major roads. This effort, led by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, aims to ensure the free flow of water during the rainy season.
During an assessment tour, officials commended the government’s foresight in prioritizing the desilting of drainages and warned against illegal dumping of refuse. Mogbonjubola emphasized that blocked drains not only cause flooding but also damage road infrastructure. Residents are urged to comply with state environmental laws to avoid facing penalties.
Major drainages cleared include those along Total Garden to Beere, Iyaganku to Odo-Ona, Apata, Total Jericho to Alesinloye Roundabout, Sango-Eleyele to Ologuneru, Ijokodo-Apete-Awotan, and Olunde to Olojuoro Road, among others.
