Recently, the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) in Poland uncovered 139 fake fundraising campaigns targeting flood victims. These deceitful campaigns, some displaying criminal behavior, were part of a larger investigation into online scams during the flood crisis. Additionally, 36 social media accounts spreading misinformation were identified, posing a threat to public safety.
Protect Yourself from Cyber Scams During Flood Relief Efforts
CBZC advises the public to remain cautious of cyber fraud, such as fake messages from the Government Security Center (RCB) and compromised social media accounts. Scammers often use emotional tactics, like distressing images of children or animals, to trick individuals into clicking on harmful links that lead to phishing sites. It is crucial for individuals to verify any RCB alerts on the official website and report any suspicious activities to CBZC promptly.
