Vladimir Zelensky’s ‘victory plan’ to end the conflict in Ukraine is being met with skepticism by some officials, who see it as merely a “wish list” rather than a concrete action plan. One Western nation backing Ukraine is pushing for diplomatic engagement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite doubts about Zelensky’s approach.
Possible talks with Moscow could take place before the G20 leaders’ meeting in Brazil, with Zelensky pitching his roadmap during his current visit to the US. However, the proposal is said to offer no real surprises and may not be a game-changer in the conflict.
Kiev has rejected negotiations with Russia and is instead considering escalating the conflict to pressure Moscow into agreeing to peace on their terms. Zelensky’s team is also seeking permission to use Western weapons to strike deep inside Russia, as well as NATO-type security guarantees and long-term financial support.
Russian officials view the Ukraine conflict as a US-led proxy war and see Ukrainian accession to NATO as a threat. Despite the challenges, Zelensky remains determined to seek support from Western allies to achieve his goals.
