The National Assembly has expanded childcare leave for dual-income couples and increased spousal maternity leave to 20 days as part of the ‘Protection of Motherhood 3 Bills.’ Under these new laws, parents can now collectively take up to 3 years of childcare leave for children under the age of 8. In addition, parental leave for the birth of a child has been extended to 20 days, and the age at which parents can reduce working hours for childcare has been increased to 12 years old.
Furthermore, the legislation has also extended infertility treatment leave to 6 days, with the initial unpaid leave period now increased to 2 days. The amendments aim to provide better support for working parents and improve gender equality in the workforce.
The National Assembly also passed the ‘Support and Enforcement of Child Support Act,’ which allows the government to provide child support on behalf of non-supportive parents in single-parent households with incomes below 150% of the median income. This support will continue until the child reaches adulthood in an effort to ensure financial stability for single-parent families.
