President Joe Biden has pledged a staggering $7.9 billion in security assistance to Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia. This major boost underscores the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.
Biden emphasized the need to continue supporting Ukraine as they push back against Russian aggression. The allocated funds include $5.5 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority and $2.4 billion in security assistance through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. This initiative will enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and provide crucial support for its defense industry.
Furthermore, the US will provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and air-to-ground munitions. Biden also directed the Pentagon to refurbish and provide Ukraine with a Patriot air defense battery and missiles, as well as expanding training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots.
In addition to military support, the US is taking action to disrupt a global cryptocurrency network linked to Russian sanctions evasion. Biden’s strong message to Russia is clear: the United States will continue to raise costs for its actions in Ukraine.
President Biden will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss further cooperation, as Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the support from the US and its people.
