The National Assembly passed a bill on October 26, increasing penalties for individuals who use deepfake pornography to coerce or threaten minors. With 204 members in favor and 1 abstention out of 205 present, the bill mandates prison terms of 3 to 5 years for those who exploit children and teenagers using such manipulated content.
In another significant development, the Assembly also approved a revision of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Protection Act. This revision explicitly outlines the government’s responsibilities in supporting the removal of illegal footage and aiding victims in their recovery. The proposal received unanimous support from all 208 members present during the session.
The passage of these bills represents a significant step in safeguarding minors and enhancing protections for victims of sexual violence. These legislative measures aim to address the growing threats posed by deepfake media in the digital age, marking a progressive approach towards combating such forms of exploitation.
