China’s recent test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) has sparked interest and debate globally. The Defense Ministry defended the action, stating that it was a “legitimate and routine” exercise that did not alter the country’s nuclear policy.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang emphasized that the ICBM launch was conducted to assess weapon and training performance, forming a part of regular military training. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Rocket Force successfully launched the ICBM, carrying a dummy warhead out into the Pacific Ocean.
While the test launch raised eyebrows internationally, China maintains that it was a necessary step for military preparedness and does not signify any deviation from existing policies.
