Denmark Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara
During the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, met with Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen. In a Joint Communiqué, Denmark expressed support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara, calling it a serious and credible contribution to the ongoing UN process.
The meeting highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Denmark and Morocco, with both countries reaffirming the strategic importance of their relationship. They discussed initiatives such as Morocco’s Royal Initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel countries, and Denmark’s commitment strategy with Africa ‘Africa’s Century’.
Denmark emphasized the importance of the partnership with Morocco as a hub of stability and growth in Africa. Both ministers discussed mutual commitments to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, migration, and development, focusing on areas like renewable energy, water management, and logistics.
This new stance from Denmark aligns with the international support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, reflecting a growing trend in Europe and beyond.
