Shigeru Ishiba Calls for Early General Election in Japan
Japan’s incoming prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, has announced plans to call a general election on October 27, a year ahead of schedule. The snap polls will determine the party that controls the lower house of parliament.
At a press conference, Ishiba emphasized the importance of being judged by the people as soon as possible by forming a new administration.
Ishiba’s New Government
After narrowly winning the race for leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Ishiba is set to be formally appointed as premier. He has started selecting government and party officials for the upcoming election.
