In a recent announcement, the Russian military confirmed that those drafted during the country’s annual autumn conscription drive will not be involved in the Ukraine operation. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to enlist around 133,000 military-age men between October 1 and December 31. The conscription service will last for 12 months for men between 18 and 30 years, with a portion of draftees going to military educational facilities before active duty.
The deputy head of the Russian military’s main enlistment directorate emphasized that the new recruits will not be part of the conflict in Ukraine. Recruits will receive conventional paper enlistment notices or through the government’s digital platform, Gosuslugi, which is undergoing limited testing this year. Although the system is expected to be fully online in 2025, draftees can already utilize certain features to challenge decisions of enlistment offices. This move aims to streamline the conscription process and improve communication with recruits.
