Israeli Strike Kills PFLP Leaders in Beirut
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) reported that three of its leaders were killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut, marking the first attack within the city. The strike targeted the Kola district in Beirut, where an apartment building was hit, according to Reuters witnesses.
Israel’s increased attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi militia in Yemen have raised concerns of escalating conflict in the Middle East involving Iran and the United States. Following the killing of a Hezbollah leader, Israel launched airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and the Houthi militia in Yemen.
The strikes resulted in casualties in Yemen’s port of Hodeidah and Lebanon, where over 100 people were reportedly killed. The intensifying Israeli bombardment has led to numerous casualties in Lebanon, with a significant number of people fleeing their homes.
The United States has called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict but has also authorized military reinforcement in the region. President Joe Biden emphasized the need to avoid an all-out war in the Middle East during discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
