Uruguayan Ambassador Suspended for Irregularities
Uruguay’s Ambassador to Sweden, Federico Perazza, has been suspended for six months without pay due to serious administrative offenses. Perazza misused mission funds for personal expenses, utilized the official car inappropriately, and mistreated Embassy officials.
The disciplinary action was taken by President Luis Lacalle Pou and Foreign Minister Omar Paganini. Perazza’s continued presence in Sweden was deemed disruptive to the Embassy’s operations.
An investigation into Perazza’s actions was launched in February following complaints from Embassy staff. The findings revealed a pattern of misuse of funds, disrespectful behavior, and failure to adhere to diplomatic protocols.
Despite Perazza’s admission of guilt and previous diplomatic service, he has been barred from representing Uruguay abroad for six years. He is required to return to Uruguay by October 15, 2024.
