AAUP Demands Clarification on Firing of Anti-Zionist Professor
The Association of American University Professors (AAUP) has stepped in to investigate the firing of Jewish anti-Zionist professor Maura Finkelstein by Muhlenberg College.
Finkelstein was dismissed after a social media post criticizing Zionists, which led to complaints and a federal investigation. The AAUP is concerned about academic freedom and due process, citing potential discrimination and harassment issues.
The professor expressed worry about silencing dissent and the rise of a new McCarthyism. The decision to fire her was based on her social media activity, including posts urging the shaming of Zionists.
Despite an internal investigation recommending her dismissal, Finkelstein and her supporters argue that the action threatens academic freedom and sets a dangerous precedent for dissenting voices in academia.
