Israel’s Defense Minister Calls Hamas Attack “Biggest Failure” in Israeli Army History
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has described the Oct. 7 Hamas attack as the “biggest failure” in the history of the Israeli army. Speaking at a session of the army’s General Staff Forum, Gallant acknowledged both failures and achievements in the IDF and defense establishment.
The attack on Oct. 7, 2023, carried out by Hamas, resulted in around 1,200 casualties and numerous captives. In response, the Israeli army launched a brutal offensive in Gaza, resulting in over 41,600 deaths and 96,400 injuries, mostly women and children.
The conflict extended to Lebanon, with Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah, causing more than 1,057 deaths and 2,950 injuries. The Israeli army also conducted limited ground operations in southern Lebanon.
Gallant emphasized the importance of learning from the past and maintaining focus, initiative, determination, and success. The international community has expressed concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict into a broader regional war.
