Enhancing Economic Cooperation between Kazakhstan and IMF
ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 1. Kazakhstan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently met to discuss their collaboration plans for the near and medium term. This fruitful discussion took place between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov and the head of the IMF mission in Kazakhstan, Nicolas Blanchet.
The IMF mission’s regular visit to Kazakhstan included key meetings with government bodies like the Parliament, the National Bank, the Ministry of National Economy, and the Ministry of Finance to discuss the current economic situation, ongoing reforms, and measures taken by Kazakhstan for sustainable economic growth. The IMF provided recommendations on priority economic policy directions.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Baibazarov highlighted Kazakhstan’s economic growth, reaching 3.7 percent from January to August 2024, alongside efforts to enhance budget policy, tax legislation, investment attractiveness, and entrepreneurship. The IMF representatives emphasized the importance of continuing structural reforms to achieve sustainable 6 percent growth.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and IMF’s Deputy Managing Director Bo Li also discussed financial and economic cooperation, emphasizing the strategic nature of their relationship and the positive impact of collaboration on structural reforms, tax and budget policy development, and growth in Kazakhstan’s financial markets.
